This was a magical experience!

We could not have been happier with our stay at Mansion Sophia. From the greeter at the airport to the luggage handler, to the concierge and the maid, everyone was friendly and helpful. The property is absolutely beautiful. The large living room is bright and inviting and the bedrooms on either side are roomy and elegantly furnished. The beds are comfortable and a cozy comforter was just the ticket for the cool nights. Even plush robes and slippers are provided.
With the rental car that was included as part of our stay, we explored many of the villages of Santorini and enjoyed them all but were more convinced than ever that none could top Megalohori. It is a traditional village with narrow streets (cars can travel on only a few), which adds to the charm. The villagers are friendly and we happened to be there the days leading up to Palm Sunday so we were able to participate in the ceremony that included decorating an enormous cross and watching with the whole village as the men used ropes and pulleys to raise it in the town square. Afterward everyone lined up for dinner provided by our favorite restaurant, located on the square. We also attended a service in the church and weren’t allowed to leave without taking home bread and chocolate.
At day’s end, after exploring other villages, we had drinks by the pool and walked to one of the many good restaurants. One night we made dinner in the nicely equipped kitchen and ate outside in one of the two lovely courtyards. The owner, Takis, even provides a complimentary bottle of wine for guests.
Staying at Mansion Sophia is everything you dream of when imagining visiting the iconic island of Santorini. I can’t recommend it highly enough.
